"Since
moving to Santa Rosa from Denver I was excited to find an abundance
of new material to paint that was unlike my previous location. At
present, pastels, acrylics and watercolors are my focus, their use
being determined by the content of what I am painting, and what
medium will best express the heart of the painting.
I
begin my pastel and acrylic landscapes in an abstract rendering,
later bringing the work into what I call a painterly realism, but
leaving the basic feeling of a strong abstract design. Acrylics
on canvas would also follow this format. My watercolors are very
experimental, sometimes pursuing realism, other times fantasy will
win.
All
of my paintings emphasize strong composition and values, and rich
colors. They combine intellect with instinct, with the latter eventually
the winner.
