Watercolor Artists of Sonoma County (WASCO) is a watermedia organization founded in 1993 by a group of Sonoma County watercolor artists. The principal purpose of WASCO is to educate the public as to the many values of watercolor and to escalate the acceptance of watercolor as being an art form which should be sought and treasured along with other contemporary art forms. Monthly programs consists of demonstrations and lectures by well known and respected watercolor artists. They are free for members, $5 for guests and WASCO newsletter members and are held on the second Thursday of every month from 1-3 PM at the Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center, 2050 Yulupa, Santa Rosa, CA.

May Guest Artist: Patricia Osborne.
We are pleased to have Patricia Martin Osborne as our guest artist on May 8th. She will demonstrate the use of masking fluid and the amazing effects she can produce in her Bird’s Nest and Eggs. Here is a short biography for her:
“Patricia Martin Osborne is an award-winning artist who has received wide acclaim for her watercolor and mixed media work in both impressionistic and abstract form. Patricia studied at CCAC, Oakland and San Jose State University. She is an instructor, guest lecturer, demonstrator, juror and workshop presenter for many art groups and organizations, and has taught at the Mendocino Art Center for 11 years as well with other prominent artists. Her workshops are designed to feel and see the magic in watercolor while inspiring confidence and creative excitement within her students and have fun doing it.” Website: http://www.patriciaosborne.com/

Aqua Areas Registration Form
The 14th Annual Juried Exhibition of the Best Watercolor Paintings Entered from Northern California will be presented at the Coddingtown Mall in Santa Rosa, CA, September 12-21, 2008. To register, print and fill out this entry form and send in to Joan Wale. (Must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF's, free from Adobe.)

WASCO Winning Posters
Winners for the Poster Contest have been selected: Best of Contest goes to Janice Swanson for her painting called "Sunny Sunflowers". It will appear on this web page for a year until the 2009 poster is selected. The three other winners were Pia McKenna's paining "Old Plow", Linda Unti's painting "Cantaloupe" and Glad Baker's painting "Geese". All four will be used for WASCO's small posters and postcards. The winning poster for Montgomery Village is Melinda Shook's painting "Rose" and it will also be used by Montgomery Village in their Press Demo Ad.

WASCO Sponsored Workshops
• The Joan Hoffman “Field Paintings in Plein Air” plein air workshop date has been moved to June 16 - 19. The good news is that this will allow us to spend one afternoon soaking up the fragrance of lavender as we paint the lavender fields at Matanzas Creek Winery in Bennett Valley. Other sites will include a winery in Healdsburg and a hillside scene. Cost is $200.00 for four days of instruction, demonstration and hands-on work with lots of support. WASCO Member News
Katrina Small’s painting“Apple Blossom Time” won a First Place award in the watercolor division at the Apple Blossom Festival Art Show in Sebastopol, CA, sponsored by the Art Workshops of Western Sonoma County (AWS).

WASCO now has its own email address: wascoart@aol.com. Please make sure that you can receive e-mail from this address. We will send important WASCO information, workshop availability, good art links, etc. from this address. Recently this address was used to inform people, who had overlooked rejoining WASCO, that their membership dues needed to be paid and in some instances the emails went into SPAM or TRASH files. If you do not want WASCO to send you emails, please inform us of that fact and your address will be deleted from the address book. This is an important addition to WASCO’s services –now if we miss some important information in the Newsletter, we can get that information to you.
